Why Resident Evil Has My Permanent Loyalty
Not just a game — a franchise I've been loyal to through the good, the bad, and the ones people love to argue about. Here's my honest ranking of the mainline entries.

I'm a straight-up Resident Evil cultist. The classics, the remakes, the divisive ones — I've played them and I'll defend most of them. RE is the franchise that made me realize a game could be genuinely terrifying and still be impossible to put down.
The Honest Ranking
- 1. Resident Evil 4 (Remake): the gold standard. Pacing, combat, atmosphere — near perfect.
- 2. Resident Evil 7: the one that brought the series home. First-person, claustrophobic, terrifying.
- 3. Resident Evil 2 (Remake): Raccoon City done exactly right. Mr. X lives in my head rent free.
- 4. Resident Evil 4 (Original): changed action games forever. Still holds up.
- 5. Resident Evil Village: bigger, weirder, and a blast — even if it trades some dread for spectacle.
- 6. Resident Evil 8 / the rest: the back half is where the arguments start, and that's part of the fun.
"Loyalty isn't pretending every entry is perfect. It's showing up for the franchise anyway — and RE has earned that."
What Keeps Me Coming Back
It's the survival-horror core: limited resources, a map you have to learn, a threat that makes you weigh every door. Even the entries that lean action never fully lose that tension. And RE9 is on the radar hard — whatever they do with it, I'll be there day one.
